Is that ice or snow?

...or just your typical icy snow?

Sure enough, we woke up to a layer of icy snow on our cars this morning. Last night I heard the West Hills were supposed to get a bit of snow but didn't expect anything in Beaverton. Being a seasoned Oregonian, though, the snow and ice this morning didn't really surprise me.

With the potential for slippery roads, I drove Melinda into work today and took then SUV into Portland; figuring that if we did get more snow in the early evening hours, I would be better equipped to get back home. The roads were a little slippery getting to Melinda's work but wasn't much to worry about. A mile or two further East and the roads were just wet. Because I didn't want to backtrack to TV Highway to get to work, I took Walker over the hill (higher elevation but no snow) to Canyon Road. From there I cut over to Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway to rejoin my normal route. Once again, there was no snow through the Hillsdale/Terwilliger area either. I must admit, I was a bit disappointed.

Just to be on the safe side (and to make sure I'm not late picking Melinda and Evan up) I'll be keeping an eye one the weather forecast and road conditions throughout the day to make sure the conditions over the West Hills don't deteriorate earlier than expected. Regardless of the precipitation we do or don't get, we're in for a cold week.
