Parting is such sweet sorrow...

...or so the saying goes.

New Job
I have a new job lined up and start on Monday, February 20th. As mentioned in the previous post, I had my second interview (which spanned 3 hours) and all went well. I met with the their top troubleshooter (Mel), an engineer (Dave) and their CIO (Byron). The only interview that I had doubts about was with Dave, but after the fact I learned that he gave me the thumbs up and said that if it was his decision he would hire me. Not bad.

New Commute
My new job is in Portland, off of SW Macadam Avenue. Highway 26 is the most direct route to take to and from work, and as anyone who lives/works in the area knows, it is also the ONLY (true) highway into Portland from the west side without going out of your way. Because of this, 26 can get backed up real quick and that dictates you know surface streets that can get you over/around the west hills.

For this reason Melinda and I took the "back way" to work over the weekend to see how long it took and to familiarize myself with the route. The way in was easy and I never really had to check the map. Coming back though, we took a different and, um, "more scenic" route via Taylors Ferry. Our goal was to get to Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway but took a wrong turn and had to wind our way over to I-5. No big deal. After we returned home I checked the map to see where we went wrong. Truthfully, I wouldn't take Taylors Ferry (to Terwilliger to Bertha Blvd to Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy) as there is a more direct route to Beaverton-Hillsdale Hwy from work, but we were out having fun.

In other news
Melinda and I are approximately 3 weeks away from becoming parents. If Evan is on time or only a day or two early, I'll be able to put in a full week of work at my new job. Once Evan is born, I will be able to take two full weeks off and then work half of each week for the next week or two. It is not quite the seven weeks I would have had if I stayed at my current employer but the job security will be worth it.
